What is a Platform Fee and why am I being charged it?

Understanding the new fee structure starting February 9, 2026

What changes are being made to the platform fees?

Starting February 9, 2026, all shifts on the Switch platform will include a Platform Fee of $8.55 per shift. This reflects a $1.99 increase, driven by higher insurance coverage costs.

How is the Platform Fee Comprised?

This fee is comprised of two parts:

  • Medical Malpractice and Occupational Accident Insurance: $5.50
  • Payment Processing Fee: $3.05

What does the $5.50 Medical Malpractice and Occupational Accident Insurance fee cover?

The $5.50 fee provides essential coverage for nurses working as independent contractors in the event of an accident while on the job. It offers protection through benefits such as:

  • Accidental Death Benefit
  • Accidental Dismemberment Benefit
  • Paralysis Benefit
  • Temporary Total Disability Benefit
  • Continuous Total Disability Benefit
  • Accident Medical Expense Benefit

It is important to note that this insurance policy does not replace Worker's Compensation, which should still be obtained separately.

What does the Payment Processing Fee cover?

The payment processing fee of $3.05 covers Switch's cost of administering daily payouts through our partnership with Branch.

Is the Platform Fee an Hourly Charge?

No, the Platform fee is a per-shift fee, not a per-hour fee.

Is the Medical Malpractice and Occupational Accident Insurance mandatory?

You are automatically enrolled and covered by this policy when you create an account on the Switch app. However, you may opt-out of it by providing proof of your own insurance policy.

How can I opt-out of the Medical Malpractice and Occupational Accident Insurance fee?

To opt-out, you can either upload a copy of insurance policy in the Personal Settings in your app.

Or, you can send a copy of your insurance policy to support@switchcare.com. If your policy is current and provides adequate coverage, the $5.50 fee will be removed from your future shifts.

Will I get a refund if I already have my own insurance?

No, the Medical Malpractice and Occupational Accident Insurance fee will not be refunded retroactively. Even if you have your own insurance, you will be charged this fee until you provide proof of coverage. The fee will be removed starting from the date you provide proof of coverage.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?
